Energy Efficient Appliances

Sharon Said:

Are energy-efficient appliances tax deductible and if so, how do I count them?

We Answered:

Appliances No.

Nonbusiness energy credit for 2009 and 2010 is now thiry percent for water boilers, furnaces, windows, doors, skylight and insulation. Pellet stoves are also qualifying purchase.
Any credit received in 2006 or 2007 do not come into play when calculating the credits for 2009 and 2010.

Velma Said:

what are the worlds most energy efficient appliances?

We Answered:

the only one i have the answer for is one that you didn't ask.
clothes dryer. clothes line. and it uses natural bleach as well.

AND, there are places where there are neighborhood CC&Rs that say you can't use them.
and the neighbors sue you if you do.

Glenda Said:

If your home is off the grid, then can't you use as many non-energy efficient appliances as you want?

We Answered:

Not necessarily. First, what is the source of your off-grid power? Second, how much power are you able to produce?

If you use clean, renewable energy, like 100% solar or wind, you can use energy without guilt, but only up to the capacity of your system. So energy conserving appliances may still be called for.

If you are generating power from polluting sources, such as from burning biomass, you will want to rely on as little of the energy source as possible, so again, efficient appliances are helpful and may be necessary.

Lillian Said:
