Concrete Basement Construction

Warren Said:

Can I use construction adhesive to fasten treated wood to concrete floor when framing basement?

We Answered:

Construction adhesive works well to prevent large surfaces from lifting, like a subfloor. It is not great in preventing smaller surfaces from sliding apart. The subfloor can't move laterally but your framing can.

If these are non load-bearing then some shifting, though not desireable, won't be dangerous, If they are load-bearing then codes and safe practice will require the walls be bolted.

What is the key issue to design and construction of a basement concrete slab?

We Answered:

Check your local building codes. Slabs range from 4-12" depending on the type of earth you are building on and the weight of the building on top of it.

How do I get rid of grasshoppers in my basement?

We Answered:

We have this problem at my hotel by the pool. We have to have the exterminator come like once a month to keep the problem to a minimum.
